Bits and Bytes

If you are a computer user then your are fated to know about computer "space", megabytes, gigabytes, and the many more there are. Both RAM and computer hard drive space are measured in the term "bits and bytes". These bits and bytes are used everywhere from the device your looking at to even those old VCRs. RAM is found everywhere it is short for Random Access Memory. It is very fast at bringing things up but the draw back is that it's a one time use thing. Once you reboot your device anything data that was stored on the RAM will be gone. This is what allows it to run so fast. A pop culture is that if you download "stuff" onto your device it suddenly starts to weigh more. This is wrong, I am not even sure where this idea came from. Only certain data is kept on RAM for example you would never load your operating system on RAM because the next time you turned your computer on there would be no Operating System. But on the other hand you would not put single time application data on the hard drive because over the course of the year your hard drive would be full of data than you would never use. Your hard drive is where the operating system is installed on, and other permanent data is stored.
